Plate, pipe and dome processing on one machine
For decades, Kammerer Tankbau outsourced sheet metal cutting or relied on manual labor, causing delays and dependency on suppliers. With growing orders, the company sought a universal cutting machine. After evaluating several options, MicroStep’s MG plasma cutting system stood out.
The machine provides fast, precise cutting for a variety of materials, including sheet metal, pipes, and domes. It also integrates advanced features such as a 26 kW drilling unit, capable of drilling, tapping, and countersinking. The work area accommodates large plates, pipes up to Ø500 mm, and domes up to Ø3600 mm, allowing Kammerer Tankbau to streamline production and improve efficiency.

We work much faster, more efficiently and more flexibly
The investment in the plasma cutting machine has brought Krammerer Tankbau new flexibility and speed: “When manufacturing a tank bottom, we save a day of time compared to the previous manual cutting,” reports Mr. Engl with satisfaction. Since it went into operation in January 2022, the multifunctional 3D cutting machine has been in continuous single-shift operation; two-shift operation is planned in the future. Accurate weld seam preparation is particularly important for Kammerer Tankbau when cutting sheet metal for storage tanks – thanks to the integrated plasma rotator and its auto-calibration unit ACTG, this can now be done accurately and reliably on different types and shapes of material.
Advanced Features and Seamless Integration
Since then, both machines have been in continuous operation. An additional advantage came with the decision to combine sheet metal and dished end cutting on one machine. Dished ends were previously supplied semi-finished and then finished by hand, an enormously time-consuming process that made achieving the required accuracies difficult. These problems are now in the past. Holes and bevels are applied automatically. “It’s a great thing, a leap in quality, a different world.”
