Nový Smokovec, located on the slopes of Slavkovský Peak, began to write its history at the end of the 19th century as the first climatic sanatorium in the High Tatras, Slovakia’s tallest mountain range. This southwestern member of the trio of settlements sharing the Smokovec “surname” is situated near Freedom Road, the historic road circuit around the mountains. Its tradition continues to this day, it is still a popular spa center. But that's not all: in addition to relaxation and rehabilitation, the village offers popular conference and congress facilities.
One of them, the Atrium hotel, hosted the 20th annual PZVAR MEETING 2024 conference at the beginning of October, a meeting of expert workers from the field of welding and NDT, from certified companies and welding schools, under the auspices of Prvá Zváračská a.s. At the event full of professional presentations and informal discussions, news from the field, laser welding, and high-strength steel welding took the prime spots.
MicroStep was there as well and, in addition to a financial contribution, also contributed professionally. Our colleague presented the welding specialists with a view of the technologies in the steps directly preceding the moment when their expertise is involved in the process; in the automated preparation of weld edges. Despite having already been through a great part of the intensive program, the participants were keenly interested in the comparison and advantages of individual energy-beam cutting technologies, their impact on the cut material and subsequently on the welding process. The lecturer presented the progress achieved in recent years and the expanded possibilities it brings, as well as the resulting necessity to reevaluate the usual attitudes towards specific technologies. The audience’s interested was piqued by video demonstrations of cutting, and the analysis of input and process costs also sparked an active discussion.
In return, as every year, MicroStep gained the most up-to-date knowledge in the field of welding as well as invaluable personal contacts. We are grateful for this opportunity and look forward to the next year.
