Launching of a new ship is an occasion of pride and joy in a shipyard. The conclusion on many months of hard and diligent work, it is a moment to celebrate and toast the future. The people in the Polish CRIST shipyard know it well. Established in 1990 in Gdynia, a seaport on Europe’s Baltic Sea coast, the company has been active in shipbuilding, steel constructions and ship-repairs ever since. From fishing vessels and ferries, through pipe laying and wind farm servicing ships, to lock gates and specialized coastal structures, their undertakings have been varied and numerous.

In January 2023, CRIST’s representatives visited MicroStep headquarters in Bratislava, Slovakia along with one of our production facilities for a factory acceptance of the newest addition to their machine pool: anchored to the ground but a flagship nonetheless, a brand new MG cutting machine tailor-made to CRIST’s specifications will soon help the shipyard create more of the projects that have brought them success.

CRIST’s representatives and a crew from our Polish partner SupraElco paid visit to MicroStep’s headquarters in Bratislava for a quick chat before the FAT

Bigger than most commercial fishing boats, with a work area 36 m long and 4 m wide, the machine of the MG series is equipped with MicroStep’s plasma rotator (360 A) with an integrated laser scanner, and an inkjet marker with 16 nozzles capable of writing barcodes and 2D data matrix codes. The beveling technology is enhanced by MicroStep’s patented Additional Beveling Process (ABP) feature that utilizes the in-built scanner for cutting of precise additional bevels on straight-cut parts – all highly automated.

Factory acceptance were tests performed on customer’s own material

The machine acceptance ran smoothly: demonstration of performance, technologies and software, cutting of samples from customer’s steel plates, review of documentation. Thanks to the personal visit the customer’s representatives were able to identify and order a few modifications that would make the machine an even better fit than what they originally specified.

Together with our Polish partner SupraElco, we wish the customer a lot of productive machine hours with their new production tool and many successful shipbuilding projects for the years to come.

Various samples were cut to test the machine: thicknesses ranged from 5 to 35 mm and angles from 20 to 45° – constant and variable bevels cut directly into full material as well as by MicroStep’s patented Additional Beveling Process.
